A day trip to South Plaza offers a captivating experience on this small yet stunning island. Measuring just 200 meters across, it is like walking through a meticulously designed garden, with medium-sized cacti and red-hued susuvium covering the ground for most of the year. Sparse vegetation, typical of arid zones, dots the landscape, dominated by the presence of land iguanas. While they command attention, it's the charismatic sea lions that often steal the show. Scattered along the coast and forming colonies near the landing dock, they add a lively touch to the island's shores. As you traverse South Plaza and ascend towards the cliffs, you'll encounter a thriving ecosystem teeming with seabirds, including Galápagos shearwaters, red-billed tropic birds and swallow-tailed gulls.
A beautiful snorkeling opportunity awaits along the cliffs between Baltra and Santa Cruz, offering a glimpse into the underwater world of the Galapagos. Overall, a day out in South Plaza promises a memorable adventure filled with natural wonders and breathtaking scenery.
